How it works
- 1A cell has six dots in two columns: 1, 2, 3 down the left side and 4, 5, 6 down the right. A letter is a set of raised dots.
- 2The first ten letters A-J use only the top two rows (dots 1, 2, 4, 5). The next rows add dot 3, then dots 3 and 6.
- 3Numbers get a number sign first (dots 3456) and then look like A-J: 1 is A, 2 is B, 0 is J.
- 4Czech Braille has its own patterns for accented letters and a different W. Upper and lower case are not told apart here.
- 5"125" means dots 1, 2 and 5, which is the letter H. An empty cell is a space, written as a slash.

Did you know
Louis Braille was born in 1809 and lost his sight after an accident in his father's workshop, becoming fully blind by about the age of five. At the Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris he learned of Charles Barbier's military "night writing" of up to twelve dots. Around 1824, aged fifteen, he made a simpler six-dot system from it and published it in 1829. Braille also exists as Unicode characters from U+2800 (⠁⠃⠉), so you can paste it into a message.

- Pigpen cipherEvery letter is a piece of a grid or a cross, sometimes with a dot. Learn four shapes and you can write secret notes.
- Polish crossEach letter is a frame from a # grid with one dot. The frame picks the group, the dot picks the letter inside it.
- Chinese cipherVertical lines count the column and horizontal lines count the row of a 5x5 table. The lines cross like a Chinese character.
- Flag semaphoreTwo flags, eight arm positions. Each pair of positions is one letter - the signaller shows it, you read it.
