How it works
- 1Every letter has a code made of dots (short signal) and dashes (long signal, three dots long).
- 2There is a short pause between letters and a long one between words. In writing, letters are separated by a space and words by a slash.
- 3Learn by ear, not by looking: listen to the rhythm of each letter - A sounds like di-dah.
- 4Czech has an extra letter CH with its own code: four dashes (----).
Example
SOS
Did you know
The code was created in the 1830s and 1840s for the electric telegraph of Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standardised today's international version. The distress signal SOS (... --- ...) is sent as one character with no gaps and is still known by every radio amateur and scout.

- Phone keypad cipher (multi-tap)Write like on an old button phone: press the key's number as many times as the letter's place on the key. C is 222.
- Binary codeText written with only zeros and ones, the way a computer sees it. Choose 8, 7 or 5 bits.
- ASCII code (decimal)Replace every character with its number in the computer table: A is 65, B is 66, a is 97.
